The Bendigo Jockey Club is well-known as the premier racing venue and also boasts a metropolitan status meeting known as the Golden Mile Race Day held in March. The club hosts 23 race meetings and celebrates its own spring carnival on the popular Jayco Bendigo Cup Race Day- an important Melbourne Cup lead-up race. With its wide track and excellent surface, Bendigo racing attracts the best metropolitan and regional fields and riders.

At Bendigo’s Central Deborah Gold Mine you can explore the hidden underground tunnels of a real gold mine that operated during the gold rush boom of the 1900s. Descending to the depths of Bendigo, you are sure to catch gold fever on the famous Mine Experience Tour (61 metres underground), the exciting Underground Adventure Tour (85 metres underground) or Australia’s deepest underground mine tour, Nine Levels of Darkness (228 metres underground). Central Deborah Gold Mine was awarded Victoria’s Heritage and Cultural Attraction of the Year in 2011, 2012 and 2013.

There is still no better way to see the sights of Bendigo than aboard Bendigo Tramways Vintage Talking Tram Tour.
Sit back, relax and let the tram do all of the talking as you journey through the past 150 years aboard a majestic Vintage ‘Talking’ Tram. You will be delighted by the grand architecture of Bendigo as your tram tells you entertaining stories about the city founded on one of the world’s richest goldfields.

There are at least 5 golf courses in surrounding area, Bendigo Gold Club being the closest.  The Bendigo Golf & Bowling Club was established in 1901. Bendigo Golf Course is situated just 10 minutes north of the Bendigo CBD and offers Men’s 6,040 metre par 72 (Slope Rating 128) and Women’s 5,353 metre par 73 (Slope Rating 127) layouts that provide an enjoyable challenge for all levels of golfers.


Now with over 30 wineries, the Bendigo region offers an abundance of choice in wine tourism experiences. Plan your visit to make the most of the variety of cellar door outlets, where you’ll find welcoming hosts and wines to write home about.

New Public Hospital

The Bendigo Hospital Project is the largest regional hospital development in Victoria. It will deliver a world class regional hospital which will incorporate the latest design and technology solutions, in a tranquil and caring environment.

The new facilities include 372 inpatient beds, 72 same day beds, 10 new operating theatres, a regional cancer centre, an 80 bed integrated mental health facility, a mother and baby unit, a helipad and parking for 1,350 cars.

Construction of the new hospital began in 2013 and is due for completion by the end of 2016.
